video translations

Subtitling is a translation of the diaglog of a foriegn language film/video/animation shown as captions, usually at the bottom of the screen.

The first step in subtitling is to provide our team with a transcript or script of the video – we provide a transcription service if these are not readily available.  We then proceed with time-coding the source script (i.e. English), which is sent to you for approval, then our linguists begin the subsequent translation.

Subtitles will be created in software packages that allow the linguist to easily measure reading speeds and check the character length limits while translating and editing them.  According to industry research, an average viewer can comfortably read the text written on two full subtitle lines in 6 seconds, when each line contains a maximum of 42 characters, so 84 characters in total.

Voice-over & audio dubbing

Voice-over is a production technique where a piece of narration in a film or broadcast is not accompanied by an image of the speaker. It is usually pre-recorded with a specialist voice talent and placed over the top of a film or video and commonly used in documentaries or news reports to explain information.

Dubbing most commonly refers to the replacement of the voices of actors shown on the screen with those of different performers speaking another language.

Selecting the appropriate translators and voice talents very much depends on the context in which the video will be used and its target audiences.

Once we receive the scripts, or have transcribed the video ourselves, we proceed with the translation followed by revision using a second independent translator. We then continue with the recording of the voices.

Whether we are providing audio dubbing or voice-overs, our clients can choose the type of voice to be used in the videos (male or female, younger or older, children, tonality of the voice, accent, etc.) from our library of voice talents.
